  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, Rich text format (RTF), or WordPerfect document file format, but MS Word format is preferred. Please use the EJAL Manuscript Template for formatting guide.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 10-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • A title page containing the title, author(s) name, affiliations, ranks, address, and email should be uploaded as a supplement file. Please use the EJAL Author & Abstract Form.

Author Guidelines

Authors need to fill up the EJAL Author, Abstract & Ethics Form and use the EJAL Manuscript Template to format their submissions.

Authors should consider the following criteria to guide them with the preparation of their manuscripts.

Originality – The author should ensure that the manuscript has not been previously published nor is being considered by another journal or book publisher.

Plagiarism - Content should be properly referenced. Be sure to check paper for possible accidental plagiarism.

Word Count – While EJAL does not prescribe any maximum length for manuscripts, we encourage authors to write concisely. Overall, a complete full length manuscript falls between 4,000 to 7,000 words, except for references, tables, figures, and appendices.

Writing – EJAL accepts American or British usage, but not a mixture of these. Authors are required to write in good English. The grammar, spelling, usage, and punctuation of the text are very important for an effective presentation. Hence, manuscripts are expected to be written in a clear and cogent style readily understandable by an international readership.

International Readership – Manuscripts should be aimed at a level consistent with the standards expected of a major international research journal.

Text Format – EJAL accepts most word-processing formats such as Open Office, Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (RTF), or Word Perfect document, but MS Word format is preferred. The text should be in single spaced 10 point font single column format. Keep the layout of the text as simple as possible. Most formatting codes will be removed and replaced on processing the article. In particular, do not use the word processor's options to justify text or to hyphenate words. However, do use bold face, italics, subscripts, superscripts etc. (footnotes and notes); employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses). When preparing tables, if you are using a table grid, use only one grid for each individual table and not a grid for each row. If no grid is used, use tabs, not spaces, to align columns. In general, figures and tables should conform to American Psychological Association (APA) formatting (6th edition). All illustrations, figures, and tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

Manuscripts extracted from a thesis/dissertation

In the case that the manuscript is extracted from a thesis/dissertation, the author;

-needs to explicitly state that their manuscript is based on their thesis/dissertation in the cover letter to the editor at the time of submission;

- needs to make the same statement in the title page of the manuscript;

- adds an acknowledgment statement as a footnote on the first page of the manuscript.
